JAMB to hold meeting on 2024 admission quota and admission guidelines on July 18

JAMB has set the date for its policy conference on admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria for Thursday, July 18, 2024. The session will be chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman and is expected to be attended by other key stakeholders in the education sector.

These
key stakeholders include heads of regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the National Council of Colleges of Education (NCCE), heads of tertiary institutions in the country and heads of national universities, youth service corps (NYSC) among others. The Admission Policy Session sets the tone for the particular year’s admission exercise and formulates the admission policy. It also presents application statistics for all Nigerian tertiary institutions for each year, candidate performance evaluation, and determination of the minimum admission standards acceptable.

During
the exercise, the Registrar submits a report on the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications as well as analyzes key performance indicators that may influence the direction of government policy on admission. The meeting also informs stakeholders of key issues that have emerged during the previous year’s approval exercise.

Additionally,
the policy meeting examines the performance of candidates in this year’s UTME and determines the minimum marks allowed for the year. It should be recalled that last year, the stakeholders agreed on the minimum requirements for admission to universities, higher technical colleges and teacher training colleges.

Furthermore,
the conference should determine the admission requirements for the year and at the same time launch the admission process for the current year. In addition, it should discuss the outstanding issues of the previous year, while evaluating the compliance of stakeholders with the existing recommendations and proposing further changes, if necessary. As always, we will share all the news from the conference on this day.
