University of Abuja appoints acting vice-chancellor


Aisha Sani Maikudi, a distinguished professor of international law and vice chancellor of the University of Abuja, has been appointed by the Senate as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University.



Her
appointment was announced following her nomination at the Senate's farewell gathering held at the Main Campus yesterday (Wednesday, June 26, 2024).



According
to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdul Rasheed Na'allah, Maikudy's appointment is "temporary and will take effect after the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor, pending confirmation by the Board of Trustees."



Na'allah
will complete her term on June 30, 2024, having provided impactful and transformative leadership to the University for five years.



In
her acceptance speech, Maikudi thanked the senators for the confidence they have reposed in her. She said, "I would like to express my heartfelt respect and gratitude for the dynamic support and unwavering commitment you have shown me."



Profile 

Professor
AISHA SANI MAIKUDi was born on 31st January 1983 and is the youngest Professor of Law in Northwest Nigeria and at the University of Abuja. She attended Queen’s University, Lagos where she took her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).



She
attended the University of Reading where she obtained her Master of Laws in 2004 and her LLM in 2005 from the London School of Economics & Political Science. She obtained her PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja in 2015.



Maikudi
joined the University of Abuja as a Lecturer II on September 4, 2008 and was promoted to Professor in 2022.



In 2018, she became the first female Vice Dean of the University’s School of Law and in 2019, she became the first Director of the University of Abuja International Centre.



Maikudi
has attended several national and international conferences in the UK, USA, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Egypt etc., authored several research papers on United Nations Law and has written extensively in the field. She is a member of several professional associations including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA) and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
